Swine flu cases report
Mexico
A total of 103 people have died from suspected swine flu, with 22 of the cases confirmed as being linked to the new virus. The number of people suspected of having the virus has risen to 1,614. The deaths have hit the capital, Mexico City, and 17 states, including Mexico State, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Baja California and San Luis PotosÃ. Oaxaca, Mexico City and Baja California, are tourist destinations.
United States
Twenty confirmed cases, including eight students in New York and other sufferers in California, Kansas, Texas and Ohio
New Zealand
Nine students and a teacher from a group from Auckland that travelled to Mexico are said to be “likely” have swine flu. And today the health minister, Tony Ryall, said two pupils and a parent from a group of 15 who have just returned from a separate school trip to the country had mild flu and were being tested.
Three smaller groups are also being monitored after reporting flu symptoms following recent trips to North America.
Canada
There are six confirmed cases, two in British Columbia in the west and four in the Atlantic province of Nova Scotia. All have links to people who have travelled to Mexico.
Spain
Seven suspected cases.
United Kingdom
Two people in Lanarkshire were admitted to hospital on their return from Mexico, although their flu-like symptoms were said to be mild and the couple’s condition was causing “little concern”. A member of the cabin crew on the British Airways flight from Mexico City to Heathrow who was admitted to hospital with flu-like symptoms has been given the all clear.
France
One suspected case.
Israel
A 26-year-old man who has been taken to hospital with flu-like symptoms after returning from a trip to Mexico is being tested.
Brazil
One man was taken into hospital as a precaution when he became ill after a visit to Mexico.
Australia
Two suspected cases in Queensland have tested negative.
