Berlusconi Praises Obama as `Handsome’ and `Tanned’ (Update1)
By Steve Scherer and Lyubov Pronina
Nov. 6 (Bloomberg) — Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi today praised Barack Obama, saying the U.S. president-elect is “young, handsome and also tanned.”
Berlusconi, speaking in Italian during a press conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow, said he was sure he would get along well with Obama because he is “giovane, bello, e abbronzato.”
Later, when he returned to his hotel, Berlusconi said his remark “was a big compliment,” according to comments televised on SkyTG24. “If some people don’t have a sense of humor, then it’s their problem,” he said. “God save us from the imbeciles” who would interpret his comments as derogatory, Berlusconi said.
Berlusconi, President George W. Bush’s most loyal ally in Europe, has a reputation for making controversial comments. In 2003, the day he took over the European Union’s six-month rotating presidency, Berlusconi likened a German member of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, to a Nazi concentration camp guard.
Italy’s opposition Democrat Party immediately attacked the premier for his remarks and demanded an apology.
“We hope that as soon as possible an apology will be made to the new American President Barack Obama,” said Walter Veltroni, leader of the Democrats, in an e-mailed statement. Berlusconi’s comments “gravely hurt the image and the dignity of our country on the international stage.”
Roiled Markets
Less than a month ago Berlusconi roiled markets by saying world leaders were thinking about shutting down the financial system. He retracted his statement less than an hour later, saying he had heard a rumor on the radio.
At a New York event sponsored by the New York Stock Exchange in 2003, he said people should invest in Italy because its women are pretty. “We have beautiful ladies and beautiful women, so my suggestion from the bottom of my heart is to try to make investments in Italy,” Berlusconi said. “The secretaries are beautiful.”
In 2006, during his election campaign against former premier Romano Prodi, he said people who voted for his rival were “coglioni,” a vulgar term for testicles.
“My greatness is without question,” Berlusconi said in March 2001. “My human substance, my history, other people dream to have.”

Today President Obama noted that Russian president Dmitry Medvedev “visited the headquarters of Twitters, where he opened his own account.”
NOVO-OGARYOVO, July 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday that he hopes military ties between the countries will strengthen.
Chavez, who is currently on an official visit to Russia, discussed political, economic and defense cooperation with the premier at Putin’s residence near Moscow.
“We have recently been strengthening the legal base for our cooperation, searching for ways to diversify our relations through new cooperation areas, namely transport, space, high-tech production, and of course military and technical cooperation,” Putin said.
During the meeting, Putin accepted an invitation from Chavez to visit Venezuela.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with Chavez earlier in the day for talks focusing on arms and energy deals.
On arriving in Moscow, Chavez called for Russia and Venezuela to become strategic partners in oil and defense, something he said would “guarantee Venezuela’s sovereignty, which is currently being threatened by the United States.”
Venezuela has bought over 50 combat helicopters, 24 Su-30MK2 fighters, and 100,000 AK-103 rifles from Russia, and also holds a license for their production. The current contracts are worth about $4 billion.
Moscow plans to start supplying Venezuela with at least ten Mi-28N helicopters in the second half of 2009.

MOSCOW (Reuters) – President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday he did not want disputes with the West to push Russia behind a new Iron Curtain, and blamed NATO for provoking last month’s conflict in Georgia.
“We are in effect being pushed down a path that is founded not on fully-fledged, civilized partnership with other countries, but on autonomous development, behind thick walls, behind an Iron Curtain,” Medvedev said in an address to a gathering of civil society groups.
“That is not our path. For us there is no sense going back to the past. We have made our choice,” he said.
He also said the NATO alliance’s role in the Georgia conflict showed it was unable to provide security in Europe, creating a need for a new security mechanism.
“That is understood even by those who in private conversations with me say … ‘NATO will take care of everything’. What did NATO secure, what did NATO ensure? NATO only provoked the conflict, and not more than that.”

Russia launched a massive counter-attack by land, sea and air last month after Georgian forces tried to retake the Moscow-backed breakaway region of South Ossetia. Western states condemned Russia’s actions as disproporionate.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has subsequently said Russian troops and armored moved into Georgia before his forces attacked, an allegation Moscow has denied.
Russian officials say NATO’s agreement to take in Georgia as a member — albeit at an unspecified date in the future — emboldened Georgia to attack South Ossetia. The Kremlin says Western states also played a role by arming Georgia’s military.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the military to prepare to “destroy” the command capability of the planned U.S. missile-defense system in Europe.
Russia has warned the U.S.-led plan may provoke a new arms race and upset a strategic balance in the region by threatening its nuclear deterrent capability. The U.S. is ignoring Russia’s concerns about positioning parts of the shield in eastern Europe and “accelerating” its development, Medvedev said.

July 10 (Bloomberg) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev illustrated his call for a supranational currency to replace the dollar by pulling from his pocket a sample coin of a united future world currency.
http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=100095§ionid=351020602
Russia will raise the idea of a new international reserve currency at the meeting of the Group of Eight leading economic nations, top Kremlin economic aide Arkady Dvorkovich says.
He said that although Russia would not try to undermine the US dollar, there is a more immediate opportunity for some currencies to play a greater regional role, Reuters reported.
—————————–
For decades the US dollar has been used to buy oil — pay international debts and just plain go shopping on the international market with
Untold amounts of US dollar assets and Treasury notes are held by the nations of the world —- The US is the ONLY nation with the privilage of paying its debts in its own currency
————– The Russians — are offering an alternative
——————-
–If ALL the nations of the world — many hate or dislike the US have an option of another currency — they will likely dump their US holdings
Most of the world now believes the US is merely printing worthless paper – they started to suspect this after the bail out of the real estate market order by Bush and have become convinced of it with the bail out and deficit spending order by Obama
——– If the world has an alternative — and no faith in the US dollar along with no love for the Americans themselves
What would be the result –?
Hyperinflation — and the US would be forced to buy another currency before it could make international purchases – The imports would stop the dollar would be worthless and the US would be destitute
Who would look forward to not having to fear the Americans military might when it can no longer feed its own people ?
China is not going to care – N Korea will jump for joy Iran will laugh – the Iraqi people will be dancing in the streets – The Russians will smirk and giggle the people of Pakistan will praise god along with any other nation that thought the US was too big for its boots
Chavez will enjoy asking for his money up front and in a currency worth something
The end of the US – hyperinflation destitution – Is that what the Russian President pulled out of his pocket

Russia vows to keep the pending NATO military drills in Georgia under close observation warning to show the reaction it deems necessary.
On Friday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev cautioned that “we shall be following everything that will be happening there in the most attentive way, and, if need be, take this or that decision,” ITAR-TASS reported.
NATO members are to commit 1,900 troops to the exercise slated for May 6 through June 1 east of the Georgian capital Tbilisi. For almost a year, the military alliance has been hatching plans for the move codenamed Cooperative Longbow 09/Cooperative Lancer 09 command-and-staff.
He claimed the measure would face the region with as much risk as the United States was posing to the Middle East and South East Asia by its pending exercises with Israel and the ongoing drills with South Korea.
The south Caucasus country is barely over the confrontation which took place when Georgian troops invaded the pro-independence republic of South Ossetia prompting a stiff armed response from Russia which had vowed to protect its citizens and peacekeepers there.
The pro-Western Georgian leadership is also eager to enlist the country with NATO in the face of opposition from the Georgian public and Moscow.
The accession bid is, however, strongly backed by the US. Prior to the August conflict, the US engaged in substantially training and supplying the Georgian military and the two sides held joint military drills.
“I am certain that this decision will add nothing to the positive sentiment of the people of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, because this sort of action is clearly expected to serve as a show of muscle, as a buildup of the military component. In a situation where all of us are already in a rather strained condition, this decision looks shortsighted and not worthy of true partnership,” Medvedev added. http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=91724§ionid=351020602

We all know that Vladimir Putin will run again as president of Russia. Now, we can reaffirm our suspicion as Russia once again seeks to be a superpower and regain the strength afforded it by the former USSR.
Now my question is, how will this affect the political realm in Western Europe and those former USSR states that now want to be part of NATO and the rest of the western world?
Also will Putin’s reelection destabilize the region, as he seeks to regain influence on the independent states of the former USSR?

Fueling Russian and Chinese fears are intelligence reports stating that Israel has moved over three-quarters of its Naval Forces through the Suez Canal and has assembled over 30 of its US-built fighter jets in Kurdistan for a planned attack using American made “bunker busting” bombs and nuclear armed cruise missiles.

U.S. defense officials said Tuesday that two Russian submarines had been patrolling in international waters for several days. While the activity was reminiscent of the Cold War, the U.S. officials said the submarines had done nothing to provoke concern.

China Pakistan India and Turkey — all client states of Iran dependent on oil
Iran and Russia share the Caspian sea — Russian and Chinese scientists are building the nuclear sites Israel wants to bomb
Killing Russian/Chinese scientists right after they promised Russia they wouldn’t is an act of war
Israel might be contemplating suicide BUT are they willing to do it alone or are they going to drag their minion colony into it ?
The Russians and Chinese understand attacking Israel necessitates attacking the US — full surprise nuclear strikes with EMP weapons and ground forces ready to go ?

Oh yes a politician has made a promise everyone relax —
Here is a concept — politicians lie — Israeli politicians lie — if they break their promise (again) will you be surprised ? You have no right to be
This was the statement given by russian president Dmitry Medvedev. he said ” the time of domination by one economy and one currency has been consigned to the past once for all”.
